LONDON (14th December 2021) — Today, TopCV, the world's largest CV writing service, announced the latest results of its Job Seeker Index. The TopCV Index of UK Job Seeker Sentiment, which tracks how job seekers are feeling about job market conditions and overall job security, posted another significant increase in November 2021, climbing to 117 from last month's 111 and making it the highest level of confidence reported since TopCV first launched the index in April 2021. Those looking to embark on a career change were particularly optimistic, climbing from 111 to 125.

Similarly, the Current Conditions Index posted a considerable 6.6% increase of 145 from last month's 136, while the Expectations Index moved upwards to 100 from 96 where it had held since August.

Amanda Augustine, careers expert at TopCV, reflected: ''November overtook October in recording the highest confidence levels amongst job seekers since the index launched. In addition, we saw a surge of confidence in those seeking to entirely change careers. Much of this can be attributed to the overall increase in optimism about job-search conditions compared to 12 months ago. This trend may also have been influenced by a 'new year, new career' attitude as 2021 came to a close.”

Of note: Job seekers continued to report feeling increasingly optimistic about both current conditions and future expectations of the job market. However, there were some disparities when taking a closer look at those with different levels of experience. Those with six to 10 years of work experience were the only group that didn't report an overall boost in sentiment for November. While those who've moved past entry-level work held steady at 110 for the third month in a row, newcomers to the job market (five years of experience or less) and those with extensive experience (11 to 20+ years) posted significant increases in confidence about the job market and job security.

About the TopCV Job Seeker Index

The TopCV Index of UK Job Seeker Sentiment is conducted online within the United Kingdom. Since it was first calculated and benchmarked in April 2021, the survey has collected data from 11,929 adults who've identified as active job seekers in the United Kingdom. Respondents are randomly selected from among TopCV's site users each month to share their opinions on current conditions and future job market and workplace expectations, and the findings are at a 99% confidence level with margin of error +/-3%.

The TopCV Index of UK Job Seeker Sentiment was inspired by the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index (UMCSENT) and has been computed using the same methodology. Scores of 100 or higher indicate an increase in positive sentiment compared to the April 2021 benchmarks, whereas sentiments of 99 or lower indicate an increase in negative sentiment compared to the benchmarks.
